Rayman Origins was a well-received
revival of a mascot who everyone kind of forgets every once in a while.
Boasting multiplayer that doesn’t lead you to constantly screw your teammates,
difficulty curves that are usually tests of skill and not leaps of faith, and
no control gimmicks that could only work on one console, I can’t see why it was
so beloved.
Thankfully, that last issue was
resolved in the next game in the series, Rayman Legends.
I’m afraid we must not get too
excited on this I’m afraid. Remember, this control scheme does work on one
console. Originally created to be a Wii U exclusive, and keeping its gamepad in
mind, the game utilized a touch screen portion of gameplay involving the ever
smiling Murphy. Remember, you know you love a character when he smiles as you
fall to your doom.

But thankfully it seemed that the
exclusive deal eventually fell through, and other companies wished to have the
game on their consoles. This then delayed the game significantly, as the
non-Wii U versions didn’t wish to lose sales because their version came out
later. After all, nothing builds hype than being at a point where your fans and
your developers are actively protesting the fact that you made a terrible
decision!
As we all know, hate is the
strongest emotion, and building hate for your game is a wise strategy. You see,
first you breed hate, then you finally release all the versions of the game,
everyone’s already had their peak anger. Then when they find out you didn’t
think through the fact that a control gimmick required to progress in many
areas is much more difficult to control on other consoles, they can’t get more
upset! Because as time has taught us, people can never be more upset over
gameplay decisions as they are due to release dates.

Alternatively, you can also
gather the hate for a ritual to summon a dark demon of destruction because the
apartment above you keeps telling you to turn down the volume at 3 AM because
they need something called “sleep.”
… Not that I’d do that of course.
Rayman Legends gets a spike trap
out of Oh no he got out.
